Al dente Chia, Flax and Hemp Seeds (with raspberries and blackstrap molasses)

This year I changed from never eating breakfast to never skipping breakfast. This transformed me from a shaking for food person to a person full of energy. Honestly I don’t know what I was thinking, missing out on so many delicious and healthy breakfast recipes!

This breakfast is definitely my favorite. It is a bowl of chia, flax and hemp seeds with yogurt and almond milk, sweetened with blackstrap molasses and mixed with raspberries. The sweet milky seeds melt in your mouth and the tart raspberries give you the extra energy kick you need to start the day.

Not only that it tastes delicious, it is also a very good choice for breakfast. The seeds are loaded with protein and the blackstrap molasses is practically multivitamin-mineral syrup. It has iron, B vitamins, calcium, potassium, anti-oxidants and lots more. I also use the blackstrap molasses from time to time as a natural iron supplement (1 tbsp per day).

All the things mentioned above, plus this recipe is super easy to make and it goes like this…

Get the seeds together: 3 tbsp chia seeds, 1 tbsp flaxseeds and 1 tbsp hemp hearts (shelled hemp seeds).

In a deep bowl combine 125 g/4.5 oz yogurt (I use bifidus, my chance to get probiotics) with 100 ml /3.5 oz almond milk and 1 tbsp blackstrap molasses.

I like to prepare this recipe about half an hour before breakfast instead of the night before. This makes the seeds, especially the chia seeds just enough soft to chew, therefore  “al dente”.

Raspberries! You can use homemade Raspberry Sorbet (two portions) or two cups of frozen or fresh raspberries or a few tablespoons of raspberry jam.

If you use frozen raspberries or sorbet, take them out of the freezer around the time you prepare the seeds.

I used raspberry sorbet. I actually prefer eating the sorbet for breakfast, just like in this recipe. You have to trust me on this – it tastes extremely fresh and delicious!

In three small bowls add 3 tablespoons of the raspberry sorbet and three tablespoons of the seeds mixture.

Top it with a little bit of matcha, maca or extra honey.  I prefer the maca, it goes very good with yogurt.

  • 3 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp flaxseeds
  • 1 tbsp hemp hearts (shelled hemp seeds)
  • 125 g/4.5 oz yogurt
  • 100 ml/3.5 oz almond milk
  • 1 tbsp blackstrap molasses
  • 2 cups of raspberry sorbet (or sub with frozen or fresh raspberries or with a few spoons of raspberry jam)
  • matcha (topping)
  • maca (topping)
  • raw honey (topping)
