Have you ever made nut butter? I bet you have.
Then you know that after tasting the homemade version, there is no going back to the store bought one.
But have you ever made nut butter in 5 minutes?
This is how fast nut butter can be made when using one of the nuts finest – the Macadamia nut.
Macadamia nuts are very soft and fatty and this is why they get processed so easily. Don’t worry about the fat content, because it contains just good fats, plus these nuts are loaded with minerals and vitamins.
So, let’s gear up for nut butter making! All we needs is:
- A pack of nuts (150 – 200g)
- Oven (optional)
- Food processor
- Ear protectors (it really helps, cause it is about to get really LOUD!!) 🙂
Roast the nuts in the oven on 170°C/325°F for about 10 minutes. This is optional, but I find roasting makes the nuts even softer, so they can be processed faster and it adds to the taste.
After roasting, they should be slightly brown.
Let them cool for 15 minutes, then put them in the food processor. If you have ear protectors put them on and then it’s game on – blend and scrape the sides for 3 to 5 minutes.
That’s it, we are done! The butter is very liquid now, but it will get creamy after cooling.
200g of nuts fill a jar of 250ml/8.5oz.
The butter stays good for 2-3 months when stored in the fridge.
I like to combine it with goji berries, raw honey and vanilla or poppy seeds and date syrup.
I also sometimes add it in ice cream. Because it is fatty, it prevents the ice cream of getting hard as stone. It has a pretty neutral taste so it does not influence the taste of the ice cream that much, but it does add to the sweetness.
I have made butter with different nuts. Almond butter is definitely my favorite, but it takes 20-30 very loud minutes to make, so I don’t make it that often. Walnut butter has a very strong taste, but I like it too. If you choose Brazil nuts for the butter, take care not to overdose yourself with selenium. This actually happened to me once. I became super anxious for no reason and then it occurred to me that I have eaten a lot of the Brazil nuts butter. In order to get the recommended dose of selenium you just need one or two of these nuts. If you are like me and you can control yourself around the butter, enjoy these healthy nuts raw!
